In 2014 we had two interns from Japan. Kazuma Yoshida from Waseda University and Tomohito Ichikawa from Hitotsubashi University. Kazuma and Tomohito choose Katare Corporate Services Pvt Ltd based on their interest in understanding the business scenario in India considering its vast economic and cultural diversity. Katare Corporate Services Pvt Ltd is located in south India, which is the most diversified part of India. Kazuma and Tomohito were fascinated by the diversified culture and language in south India, they were highly motivated and determined in gaining knowledge and exposure from the internship. They were proactive in understanding the Indian environment especially by interaction with people. During their internship period, as part of their schedule they visited more than 20 SME’s in Power, Energy and Infrastructure industry in the south India. Kazuma and Tomohito were very proactive in performing market research on potential SME’s in south India, they were also highly involving in understanding the needs of the SME’s and preparing various reports. They also had a brief exposure in attending exhibitions and business events in Bangalore and Chennai. They were also exposed in meeting many Japanese government personnel during the business events. Constant interaction with business personnel from SME’s in south India largely helped them in improving their English language and vocabulary. They were also interested in learning local language but the internship duration and schedule was fully engaged. Their internship mainly involved attending meetings and preparing report in coordination with myself. Our job profile involved meeting the senior management personnel, especially CEO, Managing Director and Vice President from companies in Chennai and Bangalore and prepare report from the meeting. The interns were highly supportive in coordinating with me and assistive in preparing reports by justifying points and reviewing them. The interns also enriched their management skills by time and schedule management with constant interaction with Indian personnel from Chennai and Bangalore through phone and emails. Their English language skills have definitely improved from this internship. India being a diversified country with many different languages, English was the common and highly spoken language among the corporate business arena in India.
Periodical meetings arranged by HIDA helped the interns to interact with other interns in south India and shared among themselves with the skills and knowledge they have gathered. The Managing Director of Katare Corporate Services Pvt Ltd constantly interacted with the interns on their program and schedule. The interns were immensely supported by the management in completing their internship successfully. India has one of the largest land transport facility, the interns utilised the bus and Metro train service at their fullest. Utilising the local transport services helped them to travel to places by experiencing the ease of travelling and exploring places.
During their internship period, Kazuma and Tomohito were highly engaging and always interested in learning more about work and culture. Their constant exposure with the corporate world and work, highly encouraged them to be involving and quick learners. Interaction with people from different corporate lifestyles helped them to adapt themselves in this new environment. This internship has helped them in improving their management skills as well as interpersonal skills. I wish Kazuma and Tomohito the very best in all their future endeavours.- C.Deepan, Associate.
